Dude, what's with the name?
There's a deep yearning in every man and woman to be free. Paul says in Galatians 5 :1 that; "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free". At the very heart of our Gospel is God's desire to "set our feet in a spacious place" (Psalm 31:8).
Jesus rebukes the religious establishment of the day; "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. (Matthew 23:15) Are we any different? How often do we pray for salvations and when they come to Christ, we shackle them with such a list of do's and dont's, that their trip to the dentist for root-canal treatment, without anaesethic, becomes a more attractive option.
Of the approximately 50-recorded miracles that Jesus performed, 40 of them set people free - emotionally, spiritually, physically or demonically. He was so bent on setting the captives free (Isaiah 42:4) that, to the dismay of Pharisees, He healed on the Sabbath!!! Where religious protocol shackled, the Son of Man liberated.
